The Ministry of Health says health units deeply regret the organization of large public gatherings.
Speaking during a media briefing in Colombo today, Media Spokesman of the Ministry, Specialist Dr. Hemantha Herath said public gatherings for religious or political reasons could lead to grave damage.
When inquired regarding the protest held in Colombo yesterday Dr. Herath said the public was requested to refrain from gathering at large, as it cannot be approved under the prevailing pandemic situation.
He noted it is regrettable that a large amount of people joined the protest, although the people have already learned lessons in the past.
He added the results of yesterday’s incidents will be seen in 10-15 days.
Dr. Herath stressed health units will take all necessary measures to prevent an increase in COVID-19 infections, and won’t wait till results are evident.
He said however if cases don’t rise today, people shouldn’t think yesterday’s incident didn’t lead to an increase in infections, as it will show after several days.
