Director of the Department of Immunology and Molecular Biology at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura Prof. Chandima Jeewandara says hospitalisations in Sri Lanka will likely keep increasing amidst the current BA.5 coronavirus wave.
Taking to Twitter Prof. Jeewandara said the world is experiencing one of the largest COVID-19 waves of the pandemic, that is fuelled by the Omicron BA.5 sub-variant, the most contagious and most immune-evasive coronavirus strain yet.
He said the variant has the same mutation that the Delta variant had.
Therefore, Prof. Jeewandara urged the public to obtain their booster shots, wear masks when indoors, and to test for the coronavirus if symptomatic.
