The Academy of Health Professionals claims the exit strategy for COVID-19 announced by the Director General of Health Services on the 27th of January has no scientific basis.
According to the new guidelines, a coronavirus-infected individual can be released from isolation after seven days without a test as opposed to the 10-day isolation period followed previously.
Speaking to NewsRadio, President Ravi Kumudesh said according to virologists and experts, an individual can transmit the virus up to the 10th day of infection.
He said therefore the recent announcement will hamper efforts to control COVID-19 in the country.
Ravi Kumudesh noted the coronavirus can once again spread rapidly if the current guidelines are enforced.
He requested health authorities to allow them to conduct tests on individuals who have been infected with coronavirus and determine whether the virus still remains in them after seven to 10 days.
Kumudesh added they can obtain samples and conduct relevant tests at short notice.
He requested authorities to consider the matter seriously and reach decisions only based on scientific evidence.
