Sri Lanka has reached another grim COVID-19 milestone as the number of coronavirus related deaths recorded in the country exceeded 10,000.
Another 189 COVID-related deaths were confirmed today increasing the country’s death toll to 10,140.
Sri Lanka is only the 52nd country to record more than 10,000 COVID-19 related deaths since the pandemic broke out last year.
Meanwhile, 3,308 COVID-19 cases were recorded in Sri Lanka today increasing the total caseload to 462,767.
The Department of Government Information said all cases confirmed today were linked to the New Year COVID-19 cluster.
Meanwhile, 2,081 persons who recovered from COVID-19 were discharged from hospitals, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 384,557.
Accordingly 68,070 persons are currently receiving treatment for coronavirus at several facilities across the country.
