State Minister Dayasiri Jayasekera says the country must reopen on 30th of August.
Expressing his views to media, the State Minister said failure to open the country will result in several industries being seriously affected.
State Minister Jayasekera said the President decided to close the country amidst requests by health units adding that it was a difficult decision.
The State Minister added health workers recommendations were taken into consideration adding that their requests cannot be ignored.
He claimed that health sector workers are mentally stressed owing to the influx of COVID-19 cases daily.
Therefore the State Minister said in order to break the cycle of cases a decision was reached to impose quarantine curfew.
State Minister Jayasekera added, he does not believe that imposing quarantine curfew alone would suffice, claiming that the country cannot be closed forever.
He noted that the country’s economy will be greatly affected as a result.
