The Public Health Inspector’s Union of Sri Lanka says children risk contracting the coronavirus if parents fail to pay due attention.
Speaking to media, Chairman of the Union Upul Rohana said there is an increased risk of the virus spreading among academic staff and school children.
Rohana said many cases are being reported from schools adding there is an increase of COVID-clusters relating to students.
He said responsibility of containing the situation lies with academic staff, students, and parents.
The Chairman of the Union urged parents to advise children to strictly adhere to health guidelines especially when in school.
Rohana also urged teachers and principals to ensure academic and non-academic staff comply with health guidelines.
He said failure to do so will escalate the present situation and may lead to schools being closed again.
