Health sector urges all adults to inform children in advance about hygiene practices since schools will resume as normal from next week.
Authorities say the number of individuals using public transport will increase significantly with the reopening of schools and thereby increasing the prevalence of communicable diseases, including the coronavirus and diarrhoea.
Speaking during a media briefing at the Health Promotion Bureau today, Paediatrician Dr. Pujitha Wickramasinghe said taking precautions is essential when considering the COVID-19 virus.
Dr. Wickramasinghe said the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education have clearly provided the necessary guidelines which need to adhere to adding it is crucial that these protocols be stringently followed.
Meanwhile, Dr. Pujitha Wickramasinghe explained the importance of using a face shield to cover the faces of pre-school and primary grade students who have difficulties in wearing masks.
Dr. Wickramasinghe said washing hands and wearing a face mask is very important.
He said subjecting children to stringent sanitary methods are important for mitigating the spread of COVID-19 amongst children.
The Paediatrician said the current levels of success was achieved through the vaccination drive.
He said the parameters of providing the COVID-vaccine has been expanded while currently vaccinating all individuals from ages 12 and upwards.
Dr. Wickramasinghe urged all parents to obtain the booster vaccine dose while administering the second vaccine dose for all children above the age of 16 and also getting children above the age 12 vaccinated with the prescribed vaccine dose.
