The Ministry of Health says a decision has been reached to administer a coronavirus vaccine third shot or a booster shot to fully vaccinated individuals above 20 years of age.
Media Spokesman Deputy Director General of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath speaking at a media briefing today said initial recommendations have been received by the Technical Committee on vaccinations for a booster shot.
Dr. Herath however said the Director General of Health Services must now issue a written guideline and issue a circular detailing the process.
Dr. Herath noted that a large population will require the booster shot claiming that the vaccinations will likely commence with the most vulnerable group to the coronavirus.
He claimed that the arrival of stocks of vaccine doses will also have an impact in decision making.
While confirming the decision, Dr. Hemantha Herath said further details and guidelines must be issued.
