The Government Midwifery Service Association has requested health authorities to conduct a stringent investigation on certain issues reported from a vaccination center in Chilaw.

Speaking to Media in Kandy, Secretary of the Association Devika Kodituwakku said they will not hesitate to take action against any midwives if they are involved in the incident.

She urged the public not to lose faith in the entire health sector, just because one officer of the Family Health Services Unit was implicated in media as connected to this incident.

Devika Kodituwakku also pointed out that the uniform worn by the officer in question, was not one that is approved by the Health Ministry.

She added that an inquiry needs to be conducted in this regard as well.

Residents of Chilaw claim that the Pfizer BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine was administered to people from outside the respective area, including children between the age of 12-18 at the vaccination centre established at the Kokkavila Government School in Chilaw.

It was also reported that the children of a doctor had been inoculated with the Pfizer vaccine.
