Another three more cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 have been detected in Sri Lanka.
The cases have been detected during tests conducted at the Medical Research Institute.
Accordingly, the number of cases of the Omicron variant detected in Sri Lanka has increased to seven.
Speaking during a media briefing at the Health Promotion Bureau today, Consultant Virologist at the MRI Dr. Jude Jayamaha said two of the cases are recent arrivals from Sudan while the other individual had arrived in the country from Tanzania.
They are aged, 33, 35 and 47 years and arrived in the island on the 16th and the 20th of December.
Dr. Jude Jayamaha said another 16 Delta variant cases were also detected today during gene sequencing.
