A stock of 73,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine have arrived in the island early this morning.
The stock arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport onboard a cargo flight, at 2.10 this morning.
The Duty Manager said the stock weighing 445kg was brought to Doha, Qatar, from Amsterdam, Netherlands.
It was then flown to the BIA onboard a Qatar Airways cargo flight.
NewsRadio airport correspondent said the vaccine doses were placed in refrigerators at the airport upon arrival, and steps were taken to transport the stock in specially designed vehicles to the central storages of the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation in Colombo.
