Another 214 COVID-19 related fatalities have been confirmed in Sri Lanka, the most in a single day, raising the coronavirus death toll in the country to 8,371.
The Director General of Health Services in a statement said all 214 deaths occurred yesterday, the 26th of August.
120 males and 94 females were among the victims.
151 persons, 83 males and 68 females among the group that succumbed to the virus, were 60 years of age or above.
Meanwhile, 58 individuals, 34 males and 24 females, were between 30 and 59 years of age.
Five individuals, three males and two females who were below the age of 30 years also passed away yesterday after contracting the novel coronavirus.
