The Ministry of Health says all types of coronavirus vaccines imported to the country are equally safe and effective.
Media Spokesman of the Ministry Dr. Hemantha Herath speaking at a media briefing yesterday said comparisons of vaccines are being made for commercial purposes.
Dr. Herath added one vaccine brand is not superior to another, terming it a mere marketing gimmick.
He stated the decision on the type of vaccine doses that will be administered in Sri Lanka was reached by two specialist committees, claiming the World Health Organisation has also attested to the safety and efficacy of the vaccines that are currently being administered.
Dr. Herath added the WHO therefore has granted approval for all vaccine types that are currently in use, for emergency use.
The Specialist noted that some countries allow the administration of only one type of vaccine as determined by respective governments.
