Minister of Health Keheliya Rambukwella says 70 percent of the Sri Lankan population has been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
Health Minister Rambukwella made this claim while holding discussions with a group of European Union representatives.
The Health Minister has said all those above the age of 30 years in Sri Lanka have been fully vaccinated.
He added that nearly 60 percent of the youth between the ages of 20 and 29 and 32 percent of the children between the ages 15 and 19 years have also been inoculated.
Health Minister Rambukwella said they are hoping to commence administering the booster shots shortly adding priority will be given to frontline staff including healthcare workers, defense forces personnel and also those involved in the tourism sector. He said they have procured one million vaccine doses for the programme and are planning to administer the shots to around 400,000 persons weekly. The Minister also said those residing in France, Germany and India have made arrangements to conduct their weddings in the country and at present officials are considering necessary guidelines for the conduct of such events.
