The Pfizer booster shot will be administered to persons over the age of 60 from today.
Accordingly, the first phase of administering booster shots to individuals aged 60 and above in the Western and Southern Provinces and in the Anuradhapura and Ampara districts will begin today.
Those who have completed three months since receiving the second dose of a vaccine will be eligible for the booster shot.
State Minister of Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals Channa Jayasumana said regardless of the brand of vaccine administered as the first and second dose, individuals will be administered the Pfizer vaccine as the booster shot.
The State Minister said while recommendations were issued to administer the booster shot after six months of receiving the second dose, the COVID-19 Technical Committee informed that the booster shot can be administered to the elderly after three months.
