A total of 5,110 coronavirus infected persons are currently receiving treatment through the recently introduced home-based care programme.
Speaking during a media briefing in Colombo today, Director -Tertiary Care Services of the Ministry of Health Dr. Ayanthi Karunarathne said 16,282 persons have so far made a complete recovery after using the home-based care programme.
She said 28 specialist doctors and 900 health service workers are part of the programme at present and they are hoping to increase the number to around 1,500 in the coming weeks.
Dr. Ayanthi Karunarathne said only registered patients who are recommended by the area MOH offices will be eligible to use the service.
She said three criterions must be fulfilled by the patient to use the home-based care service.
Dr. Ayanthi Karunarathne noted that a patient should be asymptomatic or with mild symptoms to be considered for the programme.
She added that facilities in the household and having a steady telephone connection are also mandatory for a coronavirus-infected person to be considered for the service.
More information regarding the service can be obtained via the 1999 hotline.
