4,612 new COVID cases detected in Sri Lanka yesterday

The number of COVID-19 cases confirmed in the country has risen to 426,169 following the detection of 4,612 patients yesterday.

All cases that were detected yesterday were linked to the New Year COVID-19 cluster.

The Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health said 59,796 persons are currently receiving treatment for coronavirus at several facilities across the country.

Yesterday, 2,204 persons who recovered from COVID-19 were discharged from hospitals, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 357,598.

3,264 suspected COVID-19 cases are also under medical observation at present.

Meanwhile, yesterday, another 196 coronavirus related fatalities were confirmed in Sri Lanka, raising the death toll to 8,775.
