The number of COVID-19 cases confirmed in the country has risen to 369,359 following the detection of 3,676 patients yesterday.
This is the highest number of coronavirus cases reported in a single day since the pandemic broke out last year.
Among yesterday’s cases 3,660 were linked to the New Year COVID-19 cluster.
16 persons who arrived in the country recently from overseas also tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday.
The Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health said 46,397 persons are currently receiving treatment for coronavirus at several facilities across the country.
Yesterday, 2,188 persons who recovered from COVID-19 were discharged from hospitals, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 316,528.
3,524 suspected COVID-19 cases are also under medical observation at present.
Meanwhile, yesterday another 170 coronavirus related fatalities were confirmed in Sri Lanka, raising the death toll to 6,604.
