4,562 COVID-19 positive cases were identified yesterday.
All cases that were confirmed yesterday were linked to the New Year COVID-19 cluster.
Sri Lanka’s total infections thereby increased to 436,081.
The Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health said 55,098 persons are currently receiving treatment for coronavirus at several facilities across the country.
Coronavirus recoveries rose to 371,992 with 14,394 individuals confirmed to have been discharged after recovering.
216 COVID-19 related deaths were confirmed yesterday, the most in a single day in the country.
Accordingly, Sri Lanka’s coronavirus death toll has increased to 8,991.
The Government Information Department said 115 males and 101 females were among the victims.
The deaths were confirmed by the Department to have been reported on Sunday, the 29th of August.
Five individuals, three males and two females, among the victims were below 30 years of age. 41 persons, 21 males and 20 females, were identified as between 30 and 59 years of age.
The Department reported that 170 fatalities, 91 male and 79 females, were 60 years of above.
