State Minister Channa Jayasumana has urged individuals above the age of 20 to get vaccinated at the earliest in order to return normalcy in the country with the vaccination of all citizens.
Speaking to media today, State Minister Jayasumana said 51 percent of the country’s population have been fully vaccinated adding however that several persons above 30 years are yet to be vaccinated.
He requested such persons to ensure they are vaccinated within the next few weeks claiming the vaccination drive cannot continue forever.
When questioned by media as to a time frame on vaccinating children and reopening schools, State Minister Jayasumana said the vaccination of school children will also resume in two weeks.
The State Minister said the government hopes to vaccinate children in order to resume operations of the education sector especially with examinations having been postponed.
He claimed this delay affects students psychologically.
The State Minister said children will be administered the Pfizer vaccine and requested all eligible children to get vaccinated without any fear.
State Minister Jayasumana said the process will commence on the first possible date after consulting area Directors of Health Services and Provincial Directors of Health Services.
Commenting on the database of the National Medicines Regulatory Authority being erased, State Minister Channa Jayasumana said a majority of the erased data was linked to pharmaceutical companies and drugs being inspected.
He said the Criminal Investigation Department is conducting investigations into the matter and will reveal those responsible for the scandal.
