Director of the Immunology and Cell Biology Unit, at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura Dr. Chandima Jeewandara says UK studies have published encouraging results over the coronavirus.
Taking to twitter, he noted that the risk of hospital admission to emergency departments of patients with the Omicron variant was approximately one-third of that for the Delta variant.
The Doctor also commented that risk of hospitalization is lower for Omicron cases after 2 and 3 doses of a coronavirus vaccine.
The study also concluded that an 81% reduction in the risk of hospitalization was observed after 3 vaccine doses compared to unvaccinated Omicron cases.
Dr. Chandima Jeewandara said the risk of being admitted to a hospital after testing positive for the Omicron variant was 65 percent lower for those who had received two doses of a vaccine, compared to those who were un-vaccination.
Therefore the Doctor requested public to get vaccinated and continue to adhere to COVID-safe practices.
