The Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena has issued a statement containing 19 services that are allowed to function during island-wide quarantine curfew.
Accordingly Dr. Gunawardena noted Police stations, Grama Niladhari Officers, all field-based officials, local government authorities, utility services such as electricity, water, telecommunications, petrol stations, LP gas stations, motor garages and agriculture related services can function under strict precautions.
He added grocery shops and supermarkets can operate for online deliveries while bakeries can also engage in production for distribution via mobile deliveries only.
The statement added banks, transport for essential services and emergency causes, will be able to function with only one person per household allowed outside for a specific purpose.
The statement said vulnerable persons such as persons above 65 years of age or patients with chronic illness are strictly advised not to leave homes unless for medical reasons.
He also stressed that funerals for non COVID deaths can be conducted with the participation of immediate family members only.
Dr. Gunawardena assured that daily paid labourers, activities related to tourism and activities decided by district or local COVID committees to function will be exempted from restrictions.
However the Director General of Health Services prohibited private gatherings, religious gatherings, social gatherings, restaurants, hotels, guest houses, village fairs, tuition classes, sports festivals, cinemas and spas.
