Health professionals have raised concerns over the reduction in daily PCR tests in the country.
President of the Association of Government Medical Laboratory Technologists Ravi Kumudesh said despite a reduction in tests, the daily COVID-19 numbers have been increasing steadily.
Speaking to media, Ravi Kumudesh said less than 10,000 PCR tests were conducted yesterday while some hospitals are not even obtaining samples to detect infections.
He added that the conduct of Rapid Antigen tests has also been limited to around 3,000 adding that some days even such tests are not been carried out.
The President of the Association of Government Medical Laboratory Technologists accused the Ministry of Health of disregarding the concerns around PCR tests.
He said despite the conduct of limited number of tests nearly 2,000 cases and 50 deaths are being reported daily in Sri Lanka.
Ravi Kumudesh also questioned as to how assessments are being made regarding the coronavirus situation in the country without conducting adequate number of tests to identify COVID-19 infections.
