Health authorities say the number of coronavirus cases reported from society has increased due to recent gatherings organised in violation of quarantine regulations.
Speaking during a media briefing this afternoon, the Deputy Director General of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath said if health regulations are further violated, preventing the pandemic from worsening in future will be a difficult task.
Dr. Herath said community spread and cases being reported within the community are technically two different terms.
When questioned by media on how to determine the source of infections, the Deputy Director General claimed the violation of quarantine regulations was committed on purpose.
He said the result of such actions are visible adding the public must be more responsible when facing the COVID-19 pandemic.
