The Colombo District Court today rejected a request by Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva requesting an injunction order against Chairman of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party MP Maithripala Sirisena from removing him from posts he holds within the SLFP.

The order was issued by Colombo District Judge Poornima Paranagama today (5).

An injunction order was issued on the SLFP Central Committee preventing the removal of Minister de Silva from holding posts within the SLFP previously.

Minister de Silva filed a petition before the Colombo District Court against a possible move to remove him from posts held within the SLFP based on statements made to media by former President and Chairman of the SLFP Maithripala Sirisena and party General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekara that he acted contrary to the Central Committee by accepting a Ministerial post in the current government.

Former President Sirisena had announced that party members, who accepted posts within the government, will be removed from all posts.

The Minister in his petition stated that the Chairman, General Secretary, or the Central Committee of the SLFP do not have the power to remove him from posts within the party.

Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva holds the post of Senior Vice President of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party.
