The Ceylon Teachers’ Service Union says COVID-19 related concerns have arisen in several schools that reopened for primary grades.
Chief Secretary Mahinda Jayasinghe taking to social media said several cases of coronavirus infections have been reported among primary school children.
He said recommendations have not been issued for the resumption of academic activities for Grades 6 to 13.
However, Jayasinghe said they received information of students and teachers arbitrarily being called in to schools by principals. He noted that officials must take responsibility for such actions.
Mahinda Jayasinghe added a protest will be held on a particular day following discussions with trade unions in other sectors.
He said today marks the 108th day of their trade union struggle.
Jayasinghe said the Teachers’ and Principals’ Trade Union alliance will meet with representatives of the petroleum, ports and electricity trade unions at 11.30am to discuss the matter.
