Minister of Tourism Prasanna Ranatunga has requested Minister of Health Keheliya Rambukwella to look into the possibility of making the use of the COVID-19 vaccination card compulsory.
Minister Ranatunga said the vaccination card can then also be made mandatory for foreign tourists.
The request was made during a discussion pertaining to the future of the tourism industry.
Minister Ranatunga said the possibility of organising foreign conferences and summits in the country in accordance with health guidelines is being considered.
It was also discussed that a number of events have been organised in the country next year with the attendance of a large number of tourists.
Minister Keheliya Rambukwella meanwhile said future measures can be taken following discussions in this regard with relevant officials.
Minister Rambukwella said the country’s economy can be uplifted by reviving the tourism industry and assured that the health sector will extend its full support to boost the tourism sector.
