The driver of the luxury vehicle involved in the fatal accident in Colpetty has been released on bail.

He was released by the Hultsdorf Magistrate’s Court on two surety bail of Rs.500,000 each when he appeared before Court after being remanded till today (16).

The individual was ordered to appear before the Colpetty Police on the last Sunday of every month between 9am and noon.

The overseas travel ban imposed on the suspect will continue to remain in place while Court impounded his drivers license.

The Colpetty Police was ordered to hand over the individuals license and passport to Court.

The case in this regard will be taken up once again on the 9th of February 2023.

The suspect meanwhile handed over Rs.1.5 million to the three children of the three-wheeler driver who died in the accident.

The individual was arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport after he returned from Dubai on the 12th.

The 26-year-old resident of Wellampitiya was detained by Immigrations officials upon arrival and was handed over to the Colpetty Police.

Following the accident, the driver of the car who fled the scene left the country at 9.55am on the same day to Dubai.

A 58-year-old three-wheeler driver died after being hit by the luxury car in Colpetty on Saturday morning.

The Police Media Division said the car plying towards Galle Face along a byroad in Colpetty had rammed on to a three- wheeler traveling on the same direction.

The driver of the three-wheeler, a resident of Kahathuduwa, Polgasowita, succumbed to injuries on admission to the Colombo National Hospital.
