Prof. in Geology of the University of Peradeniya Atula Senaratne says the stretch from Mawanella to Peradeniya along the Colombo-Kandy Road can be opened, as the National Building Research Organisation has stated that there is no further risk of landslides.
Prof. Senaratne speaking to media in Kandy said, major property damages were reported owing to two landslides reported in Kadugannawa yesterday.
He said owing to potential risks he proposed that the roads to be closed until experts from the NBRO conduct a study into the situation.
Prof. Senaratne said geologists and engineers surveyed the area and conducted a successful study.
He said several more technical teams will survey the area this evening and tomorrow adding roads can be reopened once the risk of landslides has been accurately assessed.
