The Civil Appeals High Court of Colombo today (4) announced that an order pertaining to a request by former President Maithripala Sirisena will be announced on the 22nd of February.
The former President requested to be released from cases filed against him by the families of individuals injured and deceased following the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks demanding compensation.
More 100 victims have filed cases before the Colombo District Court against former President Maithripala Sirisena and a group of individuals for failing to prevent the 2019 Easter attacks despite receiving prior intelligence information.
While the former President submitted a request before the Colombo District Court to release hims from cases, the District Court rejected the request.
Former President Maithripala Sirisena subsequently submitted a petition before the Civil Appeals High Court of Colombo, declaring that the decision of the District Court was illegal and requested that he be released from the cases.
