South Korea is placed fourth with two golds and three bronze medals. The Russian Olympic Committee completes the top five with one gold, two silvers and a bronze medal.

Nine other countries have also won gold medals at this year’s Olympic Games thus far.

37 nations in total have secured at least one medal at the 2020 Tokyo Games which officially commenced on Friday.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka which fielded nine athletes at this year’s Olympics has failed to make any notable progress in Tokyo.

Earlier today, youngster Milka Gehani de Silva finished 28th in her Artistic Gymnastics qualifying group two of the Women’s All-Around event.

Milka Gehani totalled 45.798 at the Ariake Gymnastics Centre with 13.366 in vault, 10.866 in uneven bars, 11.266 in Balance beam and 10.300 in floor rotation.

Milka will now have to wait until the remaining subdivisions are completed to see whether she has qualified for the finals of the Women’s All-Around event of the 2020 Olympics to be held on Thursday.

The top 24 gymnasts will qualify for the finals of the event with only two persons from each member nations or Olympic committees.

Meanwhile, tomorrow, Sri Lanka’s national Judo champion Chamara Nuwan Dharmawardana will be in action for the first time at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
