China bagged five gold medals in weightlifting, cycling track, gymnastics and shooting at the Tokyo Olympics yesterday, its biggest haul of gold medals in a single day so far in Tokyo.
With still six days to go before the Games draw to a close, China’s gold count has already reached 29, three more than its final gold tally at Rio 2016.
China also has 17 silvers and 16 bronze.
The United States sits second in the medal table with 22 golds and a total of 64 medals, and hosts Japan are placed third with 17 golds, 6 silvers and 10 bronze.
The Chinese weightlifters showed their supremacy, as Wang Zhouyu and Li Wenwen emerged winners in the women’s 87kg and +87kg categories respectively.
China has won seven golds and one silver in eight divisions it has participated in this time.
Australia is fourth with 14 gold, the Russian Olympic Committee fifth with 12 gold, Great Britain with 11, France, Germany and South Korea with six gold each and Netherlands rounding the top ten with five gold medals.
