The Ceylon Electricity Board United Trade Union Alliance claims entities such as the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka were created in order to deceive the public.
Speaking to media in Colombo today convener of the Alliance Ranjan Jayalal said his faction strongly opposes the PUCSL decision to approve a 75% increase in electricity tariffs, effective tomorrow.
He accused the PUCSL of holding media briefings, and pretending to be considerate after increasing tariffs by an exorbitant percentage.
Jayalal recalled that gas prices were reduced by a minor figure yesterday, adding that the increase in electricity tariffs would offset the price reductions expected for food items.
He said individuals will continue to suffer due to an expected increase in the price of essential commodities.
Recalling the COPE meeting with the PUCSL Chairman Janaka Ratnayake, Jayalal charged that the PUCSL also consists of thieves who are not qualified to hold such posts.
