The Ceylon Electricity Board has re-launched the Online Payment Gateway, that was temporarily shut down following a cyber incident in the latter part of November, 2022.
The CEB Media Unit said upon the discovery of a cyber incident related to the online payment gateway system, CEB immediately engaged with cyber security experts of SL-CERT and other relevant authorities to assess the situation.
The statement said with due advice immediate measures were taken to duly manage the security compromise.
The CEB said an internal reconciliation mechanism in place with partnering banks had prevented any financial losses to the CEB owing to the incident.
The CEB also noted that engineers and IT professionals implemented additional security measures, and carried out a comprehensive revamping and testing process to ensure the integrity and security of the online payment gateway system.
The Ceylon Electricity Board apologised for the inconvenience and encouraged customers to utilise the CEB Online Payment System.
