COLOMBO (NewsRadio); The Colombo Cricket Club today won the Sri Lanka Cricket Major League Tournament for the third consecutive time after defeating the Tamil Union Cricket and Athletic Club in this year’s finals at the SSC grounds in Colombo.
Although the four-day game ended in a draw, the CCC claimed the championship on the first innings total.
After opting to bat first, Tamil Union went onto make 558 all out. Skipper Sadeera Samarawickrama top scored with 188.
Isura Udana hit 88 while Navod Paranavithana contributed to the total with 54 at the top of the order.
For CCC Vishwa Fernando and Lakshan Sandakan picked four wickets apiece.
In response, CCC bettered the first innings’ total of Tamil Union comfortably and ended up scoring 669.
Chamindu Wijesinghe, Kamindu Mendis and Skipper Ashan Priyanjan hit centuries to all but seal the encounter on the final day of the tournament.
Ravindu Fernando finished with impressive figures of 6/160.
Tamil Union in their second essay was on 145/4 when curtains came down on this year’s Sri Lanka Cricket Major League Tournament.
In the league stage, CCC topped Group A with five victories in 12 matches and qualified for the finals.
Tamil Union also won five games in 12 Group B outings and progressed to the final.
Both CCC and Tamil Union had the services of several Sri Lankan stars in the SLC Major League Tournament finals and they did not disappoint the limited crowd who came to witness the game at the SSC.
