The Public Health Inspectors Union of Sri Lanka charges that COVID-19 positive patients identified through the conduct of Rapid Antigen tests are not included in the daily coronavirus cases list.

Chairman Upul Rohana speaking to media said information of COVID-19 positive patients confirmed through PCR tests are being included in the daily report.

Rohana said there is a major discrepancy between ground level information of coronavirus cases and national level information.

He added there is a major discrepancy in the information provided by PHI officers adding that this was evident in the Gampaha District.

He noted Rapid Antigen tests are being carried out in most parts of the country and the data is not being disclosed in the daily report.

Upul Rohana said although a new Chief has been appointed to the Epidemiology Unit, errors continue to be reported in the daily coronavirus report.

He noted it is evident that the former Chief of the Epidemiology Unit was not responsible for the shortcomings in the data that was issued.

Upul Rohana added the PHI provide information on positive cases, adding there is a concern in dissemination especially transparency and accuracy.

He noted accurate information is imperative in mitigating the coronavirus and decision-making.

He claimed while the PHI provides all information, there seems to be an issue in the information flowing to the main offices.
