COLOMBO (NewsRadio); The Consumer Affairs Authority today informed court that a decision has been taken to declare Rs.42 and Rs.44 as maximum retail price for white and red eggs respectively.
The decision was conveyed to the Court of Appeal by the counsel who represented the Consumer Affairs Authority in the case filed by a group of egg producers.
When the case was taken up before a two member Appeals Court bench comprising Justice Prasantha De Silva and KKAV Swarnadhipathi, the Consumer Affairs Authority said the new prices were determined following a discussion held yesterday.
However, President’s Counsel Kuvera de Zoysa representing the egg producers said his clients cannot agree to the new control prices.
He had said the new prices announced by the CAA today are lower than the rates declared through a gazette in August and therefore his clients cannot agree to it.
Accordingly, President’s Counsel Kuvera de Zoysa requested the bench to hear the petition and provide relief requested by his client.
The bench agreed to the request and decided to hear the case on the 6th of February.
Meanwhile, an order was issued to suspend the gazette issued on the 19th of August declaring maximum retail price for eggs, until the completion of the hearing of the case.
