The Consumer Affairs Authority says raids have commenced to identify traders selling low quality oximeters.
Food and Drug Inspector of the Southern Province KH Jayarathna said under the first phase raids were carried out in the Galle District.
Jayarathna noted several complaints were lodged by the public with the National Medicines Regulatory Authority, pertaining to low quality oximeters, from across the island.
He said accordingly over 42 pharmacies were inspected in Galle, Karapitiya, Baddegama and Ambalangoda.
He added nearly 250 low quality oximeters were seized during the raids.
Jayarathna noted legal action will be taken against the traders after reporting to the NMRA.
He said raids will be carried out in the Matara and Hambantota districts under the next phase.
