COLOMBO (NewsRadio); Chairman of the Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association Gemunu Wijerathna says they should be able to reduce bus fares due to the prevailing trend.

Speaking to media, Gemunu Wijerathna noted that they can definitely reduce bus fares when the annual bus fare revision takes place in July.

He said due to the appreciation of the Rupee, the prices of spare parts will come down and according to their knowledge the prices of batteries and several other vehicle parts have also reduced in the world market.

Gemunu Wijerathna noted these factors will be considered when deciding bus fares in July.

He said in the short-term, if the price of a litre of diesel is reduced by Rs.10, they can reduce bus fares further.

Wijerathna added that bus industry has also benefited from politically rallies being staged in various parts of the country in recent weeks.

He assured to consider all factors when bus fares are determined.
