The United National Party says the government has not provided answers to any of the pressing issues faced by the general public through the 2022 Budget.
Speaking to media in Colombo, General Secretary of the UNP Palitha Range Bandara said no proposals have been made to strengthen the economy, develop the agriculture industry, safeguard the health sector, support the state sector workers or provide relief to business owners.
The UNP General Secretary said instead through the 2022 budget, the government has further burdened the people who are already facing numerous issues.
Palitha Range Bandara said the government only wasted the valuable time of the people through the presentation of the 2022 Budget.
He said only the UNP which has a proven track record can rebuild the country.
He said the UNP in 2002 and 2015 took over economies which were contracting or collapsing and rebuilt them successfully.
General Secretary of the UNP Palitha Range Bandara said the public is now realizing the importance of having a UNP-led administration.
He said the economy must be strengthened through meaningful reforms and decisions must be taken for the wellbeing of the public.
He said if the government cannot support the people who have been severely burdened and, in some cases, can’t even afford three meals a day; it should resign and allow a faction with a programme to govern the country.
