An employee of a duty-free shop at the Katunayake International Airport has been arrested with nearly 7kg of gold biscuits worth around Rs.157 million.
The 35-year-old worker, a resident of Ja-Ela has been arrested last evening by Airport security officers while he was attempting to take the 60 gold biscuits out of the airport.
He was subsequently handed over to Sri Lanka Customs officials.
Officials believe the gold biscuits have been brought to the country from Dubai and the duty-free shop worker was used to smuggle the gold out of the airport.
The individual will be detained and questioned by the Customs officials.
