Minister of Finance Basil Rajapaksa and the former Director General of the Divineguma Development Department Kithsiri Ranawaka have been acquitted from the case filed in relation to the incident in which almanacs were allegedly printed using provisions of the Divineguma Development Department, during the 2015 Presidential Election.

The order was issued by Colombo High Court Judge Damith Thotawatte.

The defendants were released without summoning witnesses.

The Judge said the plaintiff had failed to substantiate the allegations.

The Attorney General had filed the case pertaining to the printing and distribution of five million almanacs with the image of the then Presidential candidate Mahinda Rajapaksa at a cost of Rs.29.4 million belonging to the Divineguma Development Department during the 2015 Presidential Election.
