COLOMBO (NewsRadio); Cabinet Spokesman Minister Bandula Gunawardena has reiterated that no decision has been taken thus far to restructure domestic debt as claimed by certain factions with vested interests.
Speaking during the weekly Cabinet media briefing held at the Department of Government Information, Minister Gunawardena said local authorities and financial and legal advisors of the government are currently negotiating with external creditors after reaching the agreement with the International Monetary Fund.
The Minister said the focus is currently on external creditors.
He said all decisions related to debt restructuring and policy implementations will be done in a transparent manner.
Minister Gunawardena claimed that they have no intention of concealing any information from the public.
He added that decisions are not taken hastily since it involves several parties.
The Minister said once they will restructure international debt, next steps will be considered.
Responding to a query from a journalist, Minister Bandula Gunawardena stressed that parties with vested interests are attempting to sabotage the debt restructuring talks with international creditors by making unsubstantiated claims pertaining to local debt.
