(NewsRadio); Minister of Transport Bandula Gunawardena says he expects the renovation of the rail track between Anuradhapura and Kankesanturai to be completed within two months.
Minister Bandula Gunawardena said at present, the upgrade of the track between Anuradhapura and Omanthai is being carried out expeditiously. He said once completed, trains will be able to run at an average speed of 100m/h along the Northern Line.
Minister of Transport Bandula Gunawardena added that they are also hoping to complete the renovation of the stretch between Maho Junction and Anuradhapura.
He said the completion of the renovation work along the Northern Railway line will result in the journey time between Kankesanturai and Colombo reducing by around one hour and 30 minutes.
The upgrade of the Northern Line commenced with the funding of Rs. 35 billion from India.
