The conduct of all weddings held at reception halls and at residences will be prohibited with effect from midnight today.
The Government Information Department said the regulation will be in place until further notice.
The decision was reached in a bid to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
Meanwhile, Police said although permission will not be granted for the conduct of wedding ceremonies, marriage registrations can take place with a limited number of persons in attendance.
Accordingly, the bride, groom, their parents, the registrar and two witnesses will be able to attend the registration ceremony.
