Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has requested the Secretary to the Ministry of Public Services, Provincial Councils and Local Government JJ Ratnasiri to hold discussions with the Ministry of Justice when awarding the post of Registrar and to also award them the post of Justice of Peace.

The Prime Minister made this observation during a discussion at the Temple Trees yesterday with representatives of the All Island Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages Association.

The Prime Minister also instructed officials to look into a suitable insurance scheme for Registrars.

Prime Minister Rajapaksa issued directives to increase the current allowance of Rs.75 for the birth and death registration to Rs.150, office stationery from Rs.500 to Rs.750 and to increase gratuity from Rs.50,000 to Rs.500,000 through the 2022 Budget.
