Community Dentist Dr. Nirosha Ranasinghe has advised to avoid placing in ice a broken tooth or a chip of a tooth, when seeking medical attention.
Speaking at a media breifing Dr. Ranasinghe said such teeth or chips should be brought in fresh milk or saline solution.
Dr. Ranasinghe said when a child faces an accident and loses a tooth or chips it, a majority bring the tooth to the hospital in ice.
She added however that it is a wrong practice. Dr. Ranasinghe said if unable to find milk or a saline solution, it is best to bring it in the patient’s saliva.
She stressed if brought within half an hour, dentists will be able to obtain successful results.
