Avishka Fernando’s 64 ball 100 and Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s 70 set the stage for Jaffna Kings to claim a win in the Lanka Premier League Qualifier 2 against Dambulla Giants by 23 runs and reach the final, to face the Galle Gladiators.
Dambulla Giants won the toss and put Jaffna Kings in to bat. It may have been the wrong decision, as Avishka Fernando smashed a century with opening partner Rahmanullah Gurbaz.
The nightmare was eventually over for Dambulla, as Jaffna posted 210/4.
If it seemed like an impossible task, things only got worse for Dambulla, as Maheesh Theekshana claimed 2/23 and Jayden Seales bagged 3/24.
None of the players got going for Dambulla, with opener Philip Salt contributing 22.
Chamika Karunaratne coming in later made a fighting 75* not out for Dambulla, but it wasn’t quite enough, as Jaffna Kings won by 23 runs.
