Health authorities say due to the nature of the Omicron variant there might be a certain percentage of asymptomatic cases in the society at present.
Speaking during a media briefing in Colombo today, Deputy Director-General of Health Services, Dr. Hemantha Herath said despite contracting the novel coronavirus, a certain percentage of individuals may not exhibit visible symptoms at all, which makes the detection of the infection hard.
Dr. Herath said therefore such individuals may not be identified as a COVID-infection adding it is fair that such persons do not undergo a Rapid Antigen test or a PCR test.
He said these individuals could be amongst us in the society adding everyone could contract the virus from such persons.
Dr. Herath said such individuals also risk infecting elderly relatives or vulnerable individuals adding however the risk of infecting others can be reduced if they obtain a COVID booster shot.
