(NewsRadio); Sri Lanka won the gold medal in the 4x400m mixed relay event at the 2023 Asian Under-20 Junior Athletic Championships in Yecheon, South Korea a short while ago.
The Lankan team won the race with an impressive timing of 3:25.41.
Tharushi Dilsara Dissanayaka who received the baton after India and South Korea in the final lap finished the race in an impressive manner by stretching her lead from the rest of the pack in the final 100m of the race.
Sri Lanka’s mixed relay team consisted of Oshada Vinod Ariyawansha, Jayeshi Uththara Hewage, Hasantha Shehan Sandaradurage and Tharushi Dilsara Dissanayaka.
Meanwhile, hosts South Korea finished second while India had to settle for the bronze medal in the event.
This was the second gold medal for Sri Lanka today.
Earlier, Tharushi Dilsara Dissanayaka claimed the gold medal in the women’s 800m event in Yecheon, South Korea.
She clocked 2:05.634 to win the event comfortably.
Nurmamet Akbayan of Kazakhstan clocked 2:10.216 to win the silver and China’s Qin Yingying who finished the 800m event with a timing of 2:11.132 secured the bronze medal.
Meanwhile, Malith Yasiru Kiraviyannalage won the bronze medal in the Men’s Triple Jump event.
Accordingly, Sri Lanka has won five medals so far at the 2023 Asian Under-20 Junior Athletic Championships in South Korea.
